Nice use of time lapse. Almost didn't notice, till the shadows from the trees in the background all moved at the same time for concrete burning @3:34.

No gloves. Genius.
Great use for an old satellite dish receiver though.

They did a whole episode of this on mythbusters and ya the best thing i ever saw was WAY more simple than this , how ever nice this guys was the one the guest stars on mythbusters came up with was so simple and had adjustable focus unlike this one, it was very simple a sheet of mylar in a pot with a vacuum on it and hey presto an adjustable death ray.

5800 suns my ass, Depends how close to the sun you are. I bet 1 sun would burn you if you were next to the bugger :) Lets face it. It may be 5800 bits of sunlight concentrated together, but not 5800 suns!

For those people like me who burnt holes in leaves with your Dads reading glasses when you were 5, well this guy kind of never grew out of that phase.

If only I had thought of this when I used to be a kid and burn ants with a magnifying glass... >:)

#1 I think it is called the wind. If it was time lapse, I don't think he would of held his arm out.

#14 I agree with #1 it is very likely that there was time lapse... cause otherwise he is shaking quite a lot and I think he would of had to use gloves or other protection..

Mythbusters did one that was more interesting as it was way bigger and it failed sadly. It could however start smoke on a ship in the distance! The problem was that if the object moves even slightly it reduces the effect by far too much.

#14 - Which is more likely? A: teenager holds his arm out and learns how to do time lapse to make a cool-looking video, or B: A teenager creates a solar death ray that can burn concrete in under 20 seconds.

#10 What he means by the "power of 5000 suns" is that the energy concentrated on the focal point is 5000 times the energy of normal sunlight on the same spot.

The light is so intense, it forces the camera to adjust the luminosity level and blackens all the background. :s
