An I.T. specialist in Kenya, Gabriel Nderitu, spent six months researching aircraft on the Internet and one year building what he hopes may become a true Kenyan homebuilt flying machine.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures"
making a plane from scratch is seriously hardwork, good job buddy, hope you fly it soon

If I was him, I would not fly it myself first. Does not look that safe. Especially the front wheel, which when landing gets alot of force

Thanks #5 , but as already suspected its made of scrap metal steal and iron , its way too heavy the motor has either not enough power or is not set up to run the rpm it needs as you can see on the video you posted its not even strong enough to pull it along its self .

I give him 10 out of 10 for effort it does look like a plane and while its amazing that he managed all this with no education I think he is right in one way , As he said back to the drawing board and just like the wright brothers try try and try again and eventually he will get it!

He would do better to study ultralight (that's microlight to some of you) aircraft designs. I believe a bamboo airframe with fabric covered wing and control surfaces is quite feasible. A two cycle motorcycle engine should provide a better power to weight ratio than the Toyota engine he's used for this attempt. You have to admire his spirit in this project, it's a lofty goal. Good luck to him.

#5 After the first video i hoped he would manage to at least accomplish a lift for a few hundred meters, after this video and 3 collapses on runway i hope for his sake he won't.
#9 agree with you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sqEteyQE2o

@3 actually the back wheels absorb most of the force when a plane is landing, think you ment that the front wheel isnt straightforward and would cause maybe the plane turning left or right while landing

From nothing but a hope, this guy attempted to create his OWN version of an aircraft... How many of us could even try to do the same with what materials we have at hand? 99% of us couldn't even make a go kart.. that actually steers it's wheels like the cars we drive... because you have no idea.

I am afraid that plane has a better chance of becoming his coffin than becoming airborn. He has a great dream but it could turn into a nightmare if it ever gets up into the sky. :S
