I don't care if Jesus himself came down from the clouds or whatever the fuck and told me that they can't feel a thing... I'd still think it's cruel... don't get me wrong I tear through cows chickens pigs fish etc. at dinner time every day but I have a conscience.

Crabs need to be sold live, sadly, because dead crabs deteriorate quickly and there is no telling how long they have been dead. I have sold crabs for a good while and crabs movement are greatly affected by metabolism--that is, the colder they get, the less likely they are to "move". Interestingly enough, crabs cannot feel via their shells but could feel pain (by reacting to the stimulus) if their shells are penetrated or their limbs are torn. (I'm not mad enough to do this, although they do this to themselves). Their limbs also have position sensing and feedback so they could "feel" if weight or an outside force tried to move or stop their limbs/feelers.
Anyways ethically speaking, crabs cannot be handled more humanely than this and there is no point protesting for their rights. Whether their handling or harvesting is cruel or not, the only way to cook crabs is to cook them alive, anyways.

Where i'm from you can't even eat female crabs (you tell by the flap - 1:09) and here they are in avending machine. Makes all those late nights getting eaten by mosquitos and catching nothing seem like a big waste of time.

And if we all think this is cruel, imagine what the crabs went through to be put in that little container. I don't eat crabs, lobsters, and hardly any seafood, but I understand they are sold alive, and their death is coming soon anyway, but as least have some decency for their last few moments.

Well, I feel it's weird, but the way we react is strange too.
It seems that our reaction to animal treatment depends on the size of the animal, and on the "proximity" of species.
I mean : how would you react if it was worms for fishing ?
(in a box of worms, there's more live animals than in this whole vending machine).
I read an answer talking about kittens : how would you react with kittens ?
We generally don't care much about insects, a bit more about feathers, more again for mammals.
What I wonder, do crabs suffer from being out of water ?
I have to say I don't eat crabs, and I don't care about crabs, but unnecessary pain to any kind of animan food ressource is a shame, even if crabs will often end in boiling water ...
If fish were able to cry, would fishermen exists ?
