That was a great graphic illustration to explain a very complex issue. The graphics made it easy for me to understand the point he was trying to get across. 9 billon people is a mind numbing number.WOW :O :O

A normal graph would have been much better than that rounded-pie-chart they used...

Our world can take twice as many as we are now, after that it will become a problem for our kind to survive on this planet. But if the growth will stop then there're no problems. We just need to get better at not wasting stuff, like throwing food in vain and start recycling.

The only reason we have this kind of pollution is because of fossil energy, once it runs out, we are fucked.

He is naive at best, and a complete idiot at worst, because in his predictions he fails to take into account global nuclear war or widespread disease, either of which could kill off billions. My own prediction is that by 2020, a nuclear war will have taken place, wiping out half the planet's population. The remaining people will be too sick to do much. Happy days. :D

Give me thumbs up if you want to see all nuclear weapons destroyed.

as long as 99% of the space are unused (as in less than 10 inhabitants per square km) how can we call the planet overcrowded?
as long as we produce trice the amount of food and more than 1000 times the amount of calories (and feed it to the animals we consume) needed to feed all people it's a problem of distribution and price.

There is dense population in 2% of australia, in 4% of canada, in a few percent of russia. And people tend to move to cities. Even in germany the rural areas become more and more scarcely settled.

A main problem from my point of view nowadays is Transport. If I could live 500 km away, but get to work, friends, family and recreation within minutes, there would be no need to live close to the city. There is no way to predict the next big change in human lifestyle (after internet and mobile phones), so it might be time we tackled this problem next and have no problem with overcrowded areas even with 50 billion people. Maybe the fusion reactor by lockheed will work and supply us with safe and super cheap energy, maybe we will build new ways of super fast mass transport.
