The retarded music in this just reminds me why I hate soccer and living in Europe, especially my homeland Germany.. I can't even enjoy the undoubtably great athletics going on here. Crazy hooligans, fat ugly husbands mindlessly cheering for their pointless favorite teams because they got nothing else in life to cheer for and a game that is incredibly boring to watch, for intelligent people at least (seriously, most of the time there is nothing interesting going on).
You really have to be either dumb or drunk to fully enjoy soccer and since I don't like to be either one of them very often, I'd much rather watch any NFL or NBA game or even Tennis, Baseball or Snooker instead. Anything really.. handball.. you name it.
Now let's see how many thumbs down I can manage to get for this from all my fellow European "you should call it footegg"-friends. Always makes me laugh.

#12 dont mess with your rating fate. its your opinion and personaly i didnt thumb you down. but i think in a stadium with 60.000 fans not every one is a crazy hooligan or a fat ugly husband.
btw you are German, why do you call this sport soccer? (only to tease the European part of Snotr?
)
#8 i totaly agree with you

#13 You might think so, but the fact of the matter is, that it just is nothing but soccer to me. When I hear/read football, I instantly think NFL. I call it Fußball in German though, because that's what it is over here. But when I speak/write in English, I don't think in German and then translate it. My mind has pretty much adopted the language because of my way of development. Most of my English speaking/understanding abilities are a just result of watching Letterman, Conan, Ferguson, Stewart, Colbert and other great US television shows as well as movies for years now. You could say I am an American, born and trapped in Germany. In the beginning (probably around 2004 / 11th grade) I barely understood a word even though I had been taught English in school since 5th grade, just to give an example of how horrible English (=British) class is over here.. or the school system in general.
So, long story short: I call it soccer because I didn't hear it being called football very often, except on Top Gear may be.

#16 ok
. you can call it as you want(its fine by me) because its the same sport with the foosball. Besides this disagreement with the name has a lot of fun.
but i think you missed the point. the fact that you dont like soccer doesnt legalize you to call everybody as above. im playing tennis, im watching Colbert, im doing many many things with my two kids, i love soccer-football, but im not a mindless drunk or dumb guy. for sure there are hooligans but in a full stadium they are in the minority.
(sorry for my Enlish - im a self learning and still not Americanized, although i want to be once).
wish you the best

I gave you a thumb up #12
Juste because I live in europe aswell (belgium) and I don't understand why everyone around me (family and friends) is so excited about football. Especially since I find it extremely boring to watch/play/pratice.
But you gotta agree that these goals are pretty amazing.

#17 I appreciate this open discussion, but you should see the some of the second/third/junior league (or tier? not sure about that one) stuff going on here (I assume you're not living in Germany). You will understand why one can get the impression, that the people I described are in fact the majority even though they are probably not if you look at the bigger picture. Either way, it's more than enough for me to dislike the whole cultural event of football/soccer over here (especially annoying during the world cup) and the sport itself is not interesting enough to make up for it. It has not evolved at all, you see more and more pathetic dives resulting in undeserved penalties (which is essentially enabling cheating) while extremely bad game-making fouls can easily go unnoticed so that important moments/decisions can be ruined by unnecessary human error while video replays will just not be allowed. I don't know.. it's just lost on me.
#18 No doubt about that. But even they get old very quickly from an entertainment standpoint. I mean you can only shoot through a bunch of people into the same goal so many times. It's the actions leading up to it that are most rewarding and they are rarely that mindblowing/creative or at least the number of key moments compared to the lenght of a game is not very high.
There are some exceptions and funny moments but nowhere near enough.

#20 just to jump in into your both discussion..i agree with both of you. You are right that many soccer/football fans seem to be drunken weirdos that scream at the tv screen as if the players could hear them. (Im a German not liking soccer/football either and the hype around it) But platonic is also right..you cant generalize that. You said you watch NFL, NBA or Baseball too..and see their fans..not really hooligans..but they act the same. Often chubby meatheads screaming like crazy..but thats simply beeing fan of a sport and to express their "feelings" towards their team and the opponment. You mentioned the World Cup..well..see the super bowl in US...same hype.
And saying "the sport is boring"..well everyones own opinion..tennis got fans..not very fancy sport either...golf..not so fancy too..but it got its fans. So its open to everyone to like or dislike..but its not nice to offend fans of a sport just because you dont like it. Its same as if i would say you are lame just because you like classical music and i dont (i do actually =P ). Its a matter of taste and the behave of fans often is part of its particular culture =)
I watch snooker (cool that you watch it too) and poker..wich many will consider as boring/not interessting too..
All a matter of taste =)
(As i said..i dont like soccer/football..but on 2006 the partys were great fun..loud..but fun)

vid starts at 0:51...
There are a few nice goals here, but its mostly just English clubs, or English clubs in CL ties(note, generally on the receiving end).
Watch some Spanish, Italian, Brazillian, or Argentine football if you want to see some really pretty goals
This vid was obviously made by a pretty young British fan. There is so much more to football than the mediocrity of the English game, though if you lived here the papers would tell you otherwise(like its a matter of pride or something),

Very misleading. These moments in football are few and far between. It can be one of the World's most monotonous sports to watch. Second only to American Football.
