Dogs also see body expression. So they know if you are happy, in pain or sick(then they try to cheer you up).

#1 I remember when I was a child I was gliding with my chest down on a skateboard on the driveway. I fell off and started crying and my dog came up from behind me and put one of her paws on my back. I turned around for a sec and thought: hmmm smart dog knows that I just hurt myself and I went back to crying XD

This is the border collie. It has been proven to be one of the smartest breed of dogs and easiest to train. They've been especially used for herding. It's amazing what they can do. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufSwMZlPYko :D
