Can't you just buy flexible shaped ice trays like this and make heaps at a time that wont melt so badly, seems like a lot of effort just for one at a time. Plus in the time it takes to make one, your drink would have gone colder sitting in a fridge lol

#1 first of all, in shaped ice trays you can't get the detailed shape you want and how are you going to put the water in it if it needs to be perfectly closed? second, when you freeze the water it wont be clear and transparent as you see in the video...and that looks much better. So your only option is to mold the ice, and it doesn't matter that its melting, its going straight in the drink, so it will melt eventualy...

#14 - How is it less vodka? If you get a half glass of vodka with ice. It's still a half glass of vodka :D

Actually i think you get more vodka with ice in it since the alcohol won't vaporize as fast :D

Duke Nukem has balls of steel. In Japan they got balls of ice!

Where in the heck do you get the large blocks of ice to use in making the balls? My ice maker does not produce bricks of ice that large.

Although the final product was amazing, what caught my eyes the most was how the ice were being compressed like gel. Fantastic!

#12 - $206 for the sphere..it seems the ones with details are far costlier, just scroll down the very page you linked and it shows other models going for as much as three grand.
