This country has fallen so much and will continue to fall. Yes, a subjective statement, but if you look at the social, political, economic trends and facts you will come to the same conclusion. I don't want this to be a long post, but ask your parents to remember the USA of 20-30 years ago.

I haven't logged in to my account in ages, but I felt the need to comment on this one. I don't believe this is real! If it is real then sometime in the next couple days we will see a lawsuit regarding this. Those "park officers" can't put anyone in prison anyways. Time will tell for sure, case closed.

no fake: http://abcnews.go.com/US/park-police-investigate-arrests-dancing-jefferson-memorial/story?id=13720498
"The dancers were protesting a January 2011 decision by a federal judge who'd ruled that dancing quietly at the memorial was an illegal demonstration and not an expression of free speech. "
an illegal demonstration. yes, right.
it is a shame that your government is so small minded
i bet they were republicans, unable to make any ethic decision.
their next step seems to be an economic death for their whole contry..

Whatever you think your rights are, its The Jefferson Memorial for f@cks sake. Have some respect and don't prance around. In poor taste indeed. You might as well take a dump right there under the guise of free bowl movement.

Jefferson Memorial or not, usa is looking more like a nazi regime everyday.
seems they are at war with their own people, and everyone else on the planet.
such a shame, for a once great country.

When I was a child US was my "dreamland" because of the US series and the relatives I had there. I visited US in 1994 when it was still pretty OK. Then I was wondering if the next visit would be worth letting them sticking their finger into my ass, possibly letting my notebook, thoroughly searched at the security check, etc. Having watched the news for the last couple of years I am pretty sure that US has started it's fail some time ago already. So, why not see Australia or New Zealand instead?

25. jotoole commented 12 years ago
Ha Ha. Reminds of my time at university when guys would stir up trouble in the hope of being arrested 'cos that was proof that things are unfair. Yeah, go to a memorial and act like a bunch of jerks 'cos its your "right" and if anyone take sany action then its a police state. I am Australian and laugh at people's comments that Iran is freer than the US. Grow up and smell reality!

Being told what to do and not to do in such a ridiculous fashion, widespread access to firearms, no free healthcare, whole areas of cities in total poverty and so on. Number one country my ass.

27. BlakeKent commented 12 years ago
And the saddest thing of all is that so many Americans actually still believe that they are living in "God's Country". They just don't realise that around the world everyone else just feels sorry for the poor saps. America? I wouldn't go there if my life depended on it.

28. loadrunner commented 12 years ago
Time for a flash mob, 200 man dancing at the memorial. let's see if we can get arrested for dancing silent with no music, (not making obscene movements, not wearing a message on our clothes)

29. Taineract commented 12 years ago
Well, did some reading around and found out some more information. They weren't just dancing, they were organized protesting. They also apparently knew that protesting without a permit there was illegal and yet they did it anyways.
The dancing wasn't illegal there. The protesting without a permit was. You can still dance all you want at the Jefferson Memorial.
Typical anti-American propaganda. Guaranteed the vast majority of countries in the world (including yours), have laws identical or similar to this.

34. hdwg commented 12 years ago
I am an American. Born and raised here. I have been to D.C. and the monuments several times. I have exercised both my freedom of speech and religon at the monuments with the objections of some bystanders. Never have I been arrested or told to stop by the Park or D.C. police even though they witnessed everything I said and did. Note: This video didn't show anything prior to the police being involved. One of the T Shirts said "Disobey" on it. Not a problem but it does show a particular attitude. The caption on the video said "Adam vs's the Man", again not a problem but it indicates something other than a few people trying to enjoy themselves. The comments left by those who admit never having been to America shows you really have no idea what you're talking about. You judge this country based on short videos and the news media, yes, even our own biased media. You no nothing of what the actual majority population thinks and believes. I assure you it is NOT what you see on T.V.

#34. I understand. Criticism of your wonderful country from foreigners is a tough pill to swallow. Your comment is amusing, it seems to say that you'll be OK in America as long as you don't have 'an attitude' LOL. Be meek and allow The Man to crush you, and there won't be any trouble. You assure us that it is NOT like what we see on TV? Sorry pal, but I've just read and seen far too much of this kind of stuff. Can it really all be lies? I doubt it.

37. hdwg commented 12 years ago
#35 You obiviously didn't understand a thing I said. I could care less about what people think about America. That's part of being free, think what you like, just as I do. It would be far more accurate to base your beliefes/attitudes of another Country after having been there and spent time with the population and not base them on media. Do I think everything is perfect here? No, far from it. Have I been to other Countries and experienced their way of life? Yes, Ukraine, Romania, India, Hatti, Ireland, France, Canada, and Mexico. Do I think those Countries are accurately represented by media? No, I've found them to be very much like America in many respects when it comes to the population. Just people trying to get by they best way they know how. Governments in every Country are corrupt, not just America, and there are biased jerks in every Country too.

40. BlakeKent commented 12 years ago
#37. I understood everything you said. I've also travelled widely. I could reel off a list longer than yours of countries I've visited and several I've stayed for a number of years, living and working there. Sri-Lanka, Spain, Portugal, France, Mexico, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, to name just a few. Oh and one of the countries also just happens to be the USA. I would not go there again. I didn't like it. I didn't like your bully-boy police, I didn't like your nauseating patriotism, I didn't like your obscene John Wayne gun culture, your flawed Political system which hinges on politicians doing anything and everything to get themselves elected and re-elected and fuck the public. Yes, it's easy to get a false view of a country by just watching a few videos, but anyone with an open mind and the willingness to research a country via different routes, TV, Newspapers and the Internet can, I believe, arrive at a relatively accurate picture. And just because I've never yet been to any country I would describe as Paradise, does not mean they are all equally bad; not by a long way sonny. And the USA, in my considered opinion is way, way down there with the shit.

Sooooooo, they did something that they knew was going to get them arrested and then act "shocked" when they do?
Stupid people.
Then their stupid friends come in and try to make a larger scene and interfere with the police and when they get arrested, they act "shocked" for the camera guy.
Of course the police reacted the way they did. They don't know what the intentions of these people are, but they know they have an agenda. Is it to get arrested and cause a scene or try to turn it as violent as possible for the camera?
The police have to react as if their own safety will be put at risk.

Americans often arm themselves with phrases like “freedom is not free” and “live free or die”, but most educated individuals recognize that freedom is nothing more than an illusion.
Unless you are filthy rich, unless you can influence the government, you are not free.

So a bunch of protesters allied with Adam vs the Man and Russian Television stage a protest event that they know is illegal and now they loudly act surprised when they are stopped? Stupid is as stupid does.
Americans have decided that they do not want to visit national monuments and be bothered by protesters and malcontents. If this same blatent disregard for the law had been exibited in many other countries heads would have been broken. (Russia,Estonia,China,Venezuala,Serbia,Saudi Arabia)

I hope this is read by the police. Where is your soul, your heart? Where is the spirit of your liberty? Do you tells the employer that you are violent against older and couples who are in love? They dance and kiss? Do you give this power, courage? Do you feel a hero? Are you more manly? What will think your children and grandchildren when they watch these videos. You will not even dare to love. I live in Slovenia and I'm glad that. At least you can still love and tell your thoughts.
Look in the mirror and think: Who am I, what am I doing? Look at your beloved and her whisper: I love you!
I'd rather not do that! You'll become a criminal! And if you have already done, we have arrested, condemned and shut down as a serious criminal, because you committed a crime, which is called love!
Davor

Stupid rednecks - if they wanted to protest, they should have done outside. The place is a memorial and so its sanctity should be protected. Doing idiotic things does not come under the purview of free speech.
If it were upto me, I would have slapped them silly...Kudos to the cops.

It is disconcerting to see an overreaction by park cops who swear to uphold the constitution but the real culprit is the United States justice system. Of all places to deny someone their 1st amendments rights, the Jefferson memorial, reinforces Jefferson's thoughts that “A little rebellion now and then...is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government.

75. c0mmanderKeen commented 12 years ago
One of the policemen did his job perfectly, giving 3-4 "final" warnings before applying violence. Also if they knew it was illegal, bring more people to make a point (and dance). this way youre just an idiot that has a date with the floor.
