Things are not always what they seem

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dots, they will remain pink.

If you stare at the black ‘+ ‘ in the center, however, the moving dots begin to turn green. . .

Now, concentrate on the black ‘ + ‘ in the center of the picture. In a few moments, all of the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single rotating dot that is green.

That's because every part of the vision field has its functions. The center is best for details and colors, but the outer parts detect better the movement around us. This also explains why a PC monitor that works on 60Hz or less looks normal when we are focused on it and flickers when we look away.

The green dot is a phantom, not an actual dot in the video. It appears where the pink dot disappears, leaving just the grey background. This is easy to verify by pausing the video and watching as the green "dot" quickly fades away, leaving the empty grey background. It has something to do with the green being the pink's complement, though whether the illusion is more in the retina or the brain, I don't know.

Why do they disappear after a while? I don't know, but it's pretty damn cool.

Brain didn't fail! colors don't exist and colors don't shift like that in the nature, so brain gave just a little bit of its RAM to process this useless stuff
