Amazing but i am just wondering, who pays them to climb a mountain and for what benefit in return? I mean, they have to make a living too right?

#11 Although there are lots of people who do mountain climbing as a hobby and for fun. Many others make a career out of it. I just don't know where the source of money comes from. I asked the question not as a criticism but because i simply don't know.

"It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the jour... the end that matters, in the end”
To run that way, this guy must have little time to devote to his passion.

#17 My question was not why they climb mountains. My question is where is the source of money for people who make mountain climbing a career.

certainly a huge performance.
But I don't have respect for it.
I will aknowledge performance, if the performers shows respect to their own lifes and if their performance can be example for other people.
Performances like this are example for many people too, but with partially deadly ending.
Usage of a rope would change my opinion.

Great skills and awesome filming too
#18 Most sponsors for those professionnal climbers sell climbing/trekking/camping stuff thus having their big logo all over the place makes good advertising for their brand
#24 Helmet is meant to protect you against falling rocks and stuff like that... Ofc if he fall it won't help

#4, #6, #15, some people have their camera attached to their helmets or other parts so both hands (and legs) can do their work. Impressive skills. Stunning nature.

What needs to be stressed is that this guy, Ueli Steck, is not just climbing up a random mountain. The Eiger north face is one of the most difficult achievements you can complete in this sport. It has been labeled "the last problem in the alps" in the 30s and back then it took the best climbers three days to reach the top taking the route he took. Many climbers have died trying to reach the top.
In the full documentary he states that it took him one year preparation.
