"Hi, I'm a reporter, and I'm going to repeat everything this woman says".

These disgustingly stupid people are more common than you think, just look at the world.

To Serve and Protect
... some definitions of the word "Serve" from the dictionary:
1. to act as a servant.
2. to render assistance; be of use; help.
3. to be in the service of; work for.
4. to be useful or of service to; help.

On the surface, this is just some absent minded old lady being silly, but if you look a little closer, that woman is lonely and frightened. Think about it for a second, why would a burglar take the remote and leave the television? Why would someone break in just to hide the remote? I'm just speculating here, but she's probably a widow and her fixation on her routine “I like to have a place for everything and I like to have everything in it's place” is an attempt to fill the void in her life. Alzheimer's disease is also a possibility. I hope not, I've seen first hand what it does to a person and it's a tragic affliction. If you watched it take one of your loved ones, I doubt you would think it was funny. A little thing like the TV remote is an absurd reason to call 911 and I really think someone needs to be checking in on her. If somebody already is, they need to do it more often and pay closer attention. Grandma might not be able to look after herself much longer.

The story is incomplete. The cops went to the place to search for a remote possible used control a pacemaker(device for heart disease) not a televison.
But they did not know it was the tv remote. It was a misunderstanding

I think someone broke in and stole the remote because the had their own remote stolen and didn't think to call 911. When they realized the remote was a different make than their own and didn't work on their TV, they returned it, forgetting where they had taken it from. It's all a silly misunderstanding.

#6 When did you last see "..to protect and serve" on any police vehicle! It's not their motto anymore, the only reason she didn't get arrested is because she stated that she thought it was a robbery.

#7 Good assessment. And I've been that frustrated looking for the remote, too! But I haven't called, yet...
