Spectacular Time Lapse Dam "Removal" Video

The White Salmon River in Washington state is flowing again as the nearly 100-year-old Condit Dam was disabled with explosives. The reservoir draining took about 2 hours. Further demolition is scheduled in 2012. The event is a significant milestone for river restoration and dam removal nationwide.

and now you're left with a muddy slippery banked river that very likely stinks.

I guess it's not entirely for the environment, look at all that freaking mud which has been stored for centuries! I can't have been too efficient with that small pond of water, compared to how much water there must have been when it was constructed!

I live near and have even fished this river. I give it a couple years and there will be so much more new growth around the muddy river banks it won't even look like the same place. The benefits we are starting to see with the fish population because of conservancy efforts like this one are incredible.
