A compressed-air-powered engine may not give out any emissions itself, but you've still got to compress the air, so unless the process that does that is clean, there's still something of a problem.

Those cars are hideous. Also, I believe Mexico city has had taxis running on air for ages (but I'm not sure)

First of all, what the HECK is "aluminium"? Last time I checked there was only one "i" in ALUMINUM.

Second, why do they have to make them so ugly just because it is a new idea?

Its not aluminum, its some other material, silly :)
Aluminum is already used as a light wait engine block in many cars nowadays (maybe even one if you own a car).

Aluminium and Aluminum are the same metal. In the USA and Canada it's simplified to Aluminum. Everyone else calls it by its IUPAC standard name, Aluminium.

Spider's right but even so the first step is to change the cars to run on something other than gas. Personally I think it should be fuel cells. The idea being to push the burden of responsibility up the chain to the producers, so however they figure out how to generate the energy the cars are ready for it.
But of course the responsibility still lays pretty much with the consumer, car manufacturers won't want to share a standard and fuel producers aren't going to lift a finger until we're out of gas.
Woohoo!

A new excuse for "hit and run". If one of those air tanks is broken in an accident you are going to be jetted into the next county.
