@13, @6: it's the choice of events of this video and your initial ideas that influence what we say about history.
Many wars involved europeans too, the biggest, WW1 and WW2, were initiated by the europeans (and the japanese), are the americans guilty for everybody else big mistakes?
And for the nowadays issues with islamics countries, should we blame only americans, and/or europeans (colonialism in the old times) or just think a little about freedom usage made by muslim countries during the recent history?
When somebody give votes to war makers, nazis or islamists or whatever mass killers, for sure you obtain war and destruction all over the world. But as for WW2 preparation, the americans/canadians are quiet, far away behind their missile shield still in construction, for some time.
@medicino: I didn't read this book yet, I guess you mean "The Better Angels of Our Nature", http://www.amazon.com/wiki/The_Better_Angels_of_Our_Nature/ref=wp_la_40?ie=UTF8&ingressSource=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FSteven-Pinker%2Fe%2FB000AQ3GGO#cite_note-0, but I have a question: how to deal with differences with archaic people, making wars for ancestral/religious reasons, even when they are much weaker than us?
As @11 said, they forgot Penicillin, Martin Luther King, Israel independence, and I'd like to add Relativity, Quantum theories, end of european colonialism (a very good thing, a bit late however), ... And computer science, and nanotechnologies, and their application to our biology and our health. And don't forget Three Miles Island, Tchernobyl, Fukushima.
I don't know if I should be optimistic or pessimistic.

#6 & #13 The biggest and most costly wars in this vid involved European countries and the Japanese starting wars that dragged the US in to settle things. Islamist terror attacks made up much of the violence too with attacks against Israel and the US.
#19 Chernobyl and Fukushima were in the vid. Three mile Island was not because it caused no environmental damage.

No mention of the transistor, computers, the world wide web, cell phones, or technology of any type outside of NASA. This video should be called "100 years of war, oh, and a few other things too"

No footage of the real progress in the world these past 100 years? Seems like most of the positive events were left out, but it's amazing seeing the chain of events consistently like things. Thing have changed. Have they really? The war this year is online.

What do we learn from this? You can't really blame the U.S. for depending so much on warfare as a driver of the economy as the shit the rest of the world (especially us Germans) had been doing wasn't exactly minding our own business either...
We have to realize: Law based on personal liberty and rights, justice and due process are fragile and historically young ideas. They can be destroyed by foreign power just as quickly as they can be taken away from powers within. Never give up freedom for security as you will end up losing both. This applies to the internet just as much as it applies to the rest of society. Give us freedom and you will get the best of us. Take it away and you will get the worst of us. Unfortunately, the best of us have not been very politically active over the last few decades. Fortunately, that seems to be changing many places around the world.
