#2 probably just stability at 30+ mph making turns hunting prey you need help as a biped when you weigh a few tons

If I woke up, opened the curtains, and a T-rex was looking at me, breathing at my bedroom window, I would be a very unpleasent feeling.

any tailed animal will do this
its a nature of tail
nature designed it to navigate
even fish and birds will use it in similar matter bird on ground or fish jumping out of water i bet you saw those white sharks jump out of water twisting and turning to grab that seal.
the future of jumping robots is bright, but i kinda fail to see its benefits.
