A very bizarre thing is that we also took in a homeless dog once, and we also named her Fiona.

Not kidding.

In the first place why some people have pets if they cannot love and take care of them. I see here in the middle east when the expats leave the country for good they just ditch them and leave by the taxi to the airport and these loved pets run behind the taxi for long till they get exhausted and slow down and lay down helplessly looking and longing for their return. These pets later someday die out of hunger or get hit by the vehicles or even sometimes get killed for fun by some disgusting boys. Very rarely these orphan dogs will get picked up by SPCA and when the population of the pets increases with them they are left with no option but to put them to sleep for good. I wonder when these pet owners realize that they have committed a horrendous thing just for their pleasure........ :'( >:) This video is very inspirational and touchy for the real pet lovers. Hats off to those who rescued her and restored her sight and the family who adopted and gave her love and new home.. :)

#10 I think part of the reason we're immune to the homeless issue, is because most of us understand what its like to be a human, *most* of us are able to function in society, so we truly don't get people who can't. When I see a homeless person, I wonder what it is that's going on with them that makes them unable to find a job? Or, if they are disabled, why don't they have disability? If they have disability they can get SOME government funds, even if it means they have to get together with 2 other disabled people and rent a house in a bad area of town, it doesn't mean they need to be out on the street.

Don't think I'm being cruel, I was homeless at one point in my life, but I also know it was because I was being a lazy piece of shit. Granted, it was only for a few days before a family member took me in, but I had no job, not because I couldn't but because I didn't want one, being homeless for a short period of time got me off my ass.

Dogs and cats, on the other hand, don't have the option of going out to get a job, or house sharing. Hence the empathy.

I'm happy for the dog regaining its sight in one eye, but I would have been elated if one human being who couldn't afford the operation regained their sight instead. Personally, I think anyone who abuses an animal is scum but we as a society we have our priorities screwed on backwards.

Nice video :) And I think the comparisons of humans' priorities being f'd up because they help a dog rather than a human are absurd. It is not that they "like animals more than humans", it is that a good person with a vision and love for animals started her/his dream of a foundation that helps animals. That person raises funds and helps animals using its spare time. There are other organizations that help humans (http://www.snotr.com/video/8135/True_Love_and_Affection_-_Narayanan_Krishnan) But it's the people who do that. Individuals that want to help others. People contributing back for a greater purpose than themselves. If you would rather see a human get their vision back, well... how about doing something so that one day you can be proud to say " I helped a human get his/her vision back" instead of comparing it to the helping work of others. :) Btw, I agree...you are right, our priorities are f'd up, but the people in the video have their priorities right there where they should be.
