Eating in America is a soul-destroying experience. You can't just order your food, eat it, pay for it and exit. Oh no, before paying and leaving, you have to suffer the embarrassing USA begging-bowl tip culture. I just wish the restaurant owners would start paying their employees a fair wage for the job, then perhaps they wouldn't feel this compulsion to irritate the shit out of customers with their persistent begging.

I never get why US makes a price tag on something and add the tax on the counter...why not put it on the pricetag right away? In most places they tag the price the way you have to pay on the register..why seperate it?
#2 They also got tip glasses wich say "Tipping is not an asian coutry."

#3 its still obvious, right? they add taxes to tell you how cheap their product is. what they forget about is, that everytime someone buys something, will be reminded, on how "much" money the gov is getting for your well being.

imo one of the reasons, why US people talk about their gov way more than others do

and yes, great talent, this guy

#3 I think this is a good thing, because people are more aware of how much taxes they actually pay in everyday life. Sales tax is a tax that affects the poor the most since a great share of their income is spent on groceries and household goods rather than capital investment, so you are more likely to be aware of the taxes you pay, much like you are more aware of your income/payroll taxes due to the fact that you have to file your returns rather than have the government take it away automatically without you even noticing.

This is why so many internet/telephone consumer scams are based on subscriptions, because people are less likely to notice and do something about it. In the U.S. people would go nuts if they realized they are paying 19% sales tax. Here in Germany, there was a little bit of a discussion in the beginning when it increased from 16% to 19%, now everyone just goes along with it. Nobody ever says "wait a minute, that is a shitload of money and it is mostly coming from the lower and middle class". Nobody ever looks at the receipt.

FYI (i) There is no national US sales tax on goods purchased.Remember, each US state is about the size of most European countries, and sales tax is the province of the individual 50 states, and they are each in control of how much,if any ,sales tax is charged. Many states have no sales tax at all while others do. Most states do not charge tax on groceries or precription medicine and over the counter medications. The highest sales tax in the US is of course in California at around 7.25%.In my state of Virginia the sales tax is 5%, but groceries and medicines are almost tax free.
WTF #2 crazydave is rambling about I have no idea. Waiters in eateries work primarily for low salary but earn two to five hundred dollars a night in tips. They know that good service is what makes them money,so they try to please their customers.I have never seen a begging bowl at all. Sounds like sour grapes. Probably he was just a lousy waiter.

Odd that #11. sux2bhim appears to display a knowledge of the way US waiters/waitresses work, but without realising how fundamentally flawed their remuneration package actually is. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that when people eat out, or in fact when people take advantage of any service at all, it is their right to EXPECT 'good service', and not be pressured into seeing this as some 'extra' which requires additional payment. Oh and if there's anyone else who's as confused as sux, here's a heads up: there isn't really a begging bowl. Got it? It's their actions which 'suggest' a demeaning begging bowl mentality. :|

Finally, no, I've never been a waiter, lousy or otherwise, but the defensive reaction of sux indicates that he might be one, and if he is, I suggest he goes and sees his boss to negotiate a proper rate of pay, one that would not necessitate his grovelling and sycophantic 'have a nice day' - 'now gimme a tip' behaviour. :D

Take a peek at Mr. Pink: :D

So why does a simple comedy about getting the right change at a pizza joint get used by CallMeDumb as a platform to go on a tirade about how he dislikes the way restaurants in the US do business? It has worked for scores of years and good waiters make lots of money. No one has to become a waiter, they do it for the money. Get a grip Dave.
And that pedophile picture you use is disturbing to little kids I would think. :|

You are correct sux2butts, no-one has to become a waiter, but people who eat out have little choice; they usually end up being served by waiters. .... read my post at #2 again if you're still confused.

It's unfortunate that you found my photo disturbing. The picture of one of your toy helicopters is lovely. Did your mommy help you pick it? :D

I don't care if it happens in the us or elsewhere on this planet. Tipping is IRS fraud, nothing else. In order to maximize profits the restaurant owners pay their employees a crappy wage, that is taxed, but rely on customers to give the waiters taxfree money.

Pay the waiter a decent wage and tipping will not be necessary. Imagine you had to tip your doctor or even better the IRS employee who is checking your tax statement.
