99,9% of all people on ts planet can only do one thing at a time, 80% think they can do more than one thing at a time. Supertaskers are really hard to find, the rest of us just switches from one task to the other.

Try to count words from two different audio sources. Even this pretty easytask is hard for most people.

Just yesterday i watched a documentation from national geographic about awareness that stated using your phone equals an alcohole level of 0.08 percent (!) in your blood. Texting is far worse for your attention. There are hundreds of deads each year because of mobile phones on the wheel. If you interested: Http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2113487/

#(removed comment) even then you loose awareness. Every human knows how to count, still most fail to count and do something easy besides that at the exact same time.

I don't mind nature selection running its course, but I do mind these bozos get behind the wheels and get anywhere near me. This has become an epidemics and its time the society get the special driving ed again, on public TVs.

Show them traumatic videos of auto wracks, the bloodier the better

I hate cars and driving, but I guess the smarter and more informed you are the more this is true.

For some reason this isn't illegal in Sweden.

Then again, this movie just shows inexperienced drivers getting yelled at by their teacher which makes them more stressed than you would be on your own. Also, you have to write the things he says which makes people think even more on the task.

Texting while driving is still stupid though.

"each year tousands of people".. sorry, but thats simply not true.
i am by no means supporting texting behind the wheels, but making up some phrases and putting people in a parcour is the wrong way to adress this.

no one would text while driving in a parcour like this. people text on straight roads where they feel in control. and thats the problem.

this is stupid

#(removed comment) Nice try, those are Belgians though.

#8 Agreed, on both counts...

In my opinion the whole idea of texting while driving is stupid... don't even know what kind of genius started that, or why. If you need to get in touch with someone why not just call? They even manufacture most of the cars with built-in handsfree sets... puzzling >_<

I have great confidence in my multitasking, as well as driving, skills... and even with that I only read texts on red lights, or write short "will be late"s while stuck in traffic jams...

Side note - I think this method is rather cruel, people who are only just taking their driving tests (+ meaning they haven't yet had the opportunity to text while driving, unlike people who own licence already) are often nervous and stiff even without additional "torture"... Strange thing though, drivers from Belgium are usually avoided as swiftly as possible when encountered in traffic (main reason, other than stereotype, being that the testing in Belgium is deemed insufficient/non-existent by almost any other country)... I wonder why this "torture" started there...? :o)

Even calling handsfree brings down attention to the road down, like drinking 2 glasses of beer in the our before.

But even on a red lkight, you need to be able to clear the road for an ambulance or firetruck, in a save way. You could miss one when texting.

You need a split second to react.

I'm too old to be a part of the mobile phone texting fad, so I can objectively say there's a bit of hysteria about it.

There have always been things in the car to dangerously distract the driver, such as reading maps, applying makeup, fetching something on the floor, etc. Texting is no more or less dangerous than any other engrossing activity. For some people, that includes a voice call (with or without headset). For others, a voice call is no more distracting than a conversation with another person in the car (again, with or without headset).

Doing anything while stopped at a light risks missing the light change, but that's it. You will not miss an emergency vehicle with a siren - that's a ridiculous claim.

I fully expect there are some people who are able to switch back and forth between phone and road rapidly enough to actually text safely, but I also expect their numbers to be so few as to suggest nothing against laws forbidding texting while actually in motion.

#7: Really? Always thought you were smarter with these things and we Finns just copied your good proven laws. Using a mobile phone without a hands-free device while driving is illegal in Finland. Unfortunately there are many who don't obey the law. You can easily spot them, as they tend to drive like drunks. No signals, sudden correcting moves, very slow acceleration, etc.

While I completely agree with the message that this video brings, this is also a load of baloney. Most people CAN text while driving, it's just the fact that it diverts your attention for that deadly second. That's the important part, and a part that this video doesn't point out..

As serious as this is (and props for sharing this film SNOTR), this guy still has a good sense of humor: "Be careful, I'll correct your spelling"! :D Like it matters...

Point well made. :|

And I love the woman in the end yelling - c'est pas possible!! (It's impossible!!)

Thank you for this very helpful and reliable post. Safety is everyone's primary concern, that's why I'd like to share this article that I read about the danger of texting while driving especially for those who own a car. The Department of Transportation, among other bodies and the general public at large, is concerned about texting while driving, which is very dangerous. Most states have texting while driving laws which stop it, but the DOT has thrown $550,000 toward researching whether such regulations have an impact. Are you trying to buy or sell a used or new Spokane Ford Focus? If this describes you, take a look at CarDealExpert.com! Source of article: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITsXjM3TLvk
