Ouch. Looks like the bikes are OK though.

What did they expect? Speeding on tyres with a thickness of a spiders web! And the tyres a pumped to 20 bar or something like that.
A penny's "footprint" is bigger than these tyres = Nothing to grab the asphalt to brake.

#7: They were just too fast, nothing to do with footprint. The smaller footprint, the bigger pressure/friction... Might be an issue on an oil stain, however, on the clear surface it makes almost no difference...

btw. crashes like this often look worse than they are, they are not nice but these guy's are tough. i deal with them on a daily base in our cycleshop.
