What I am about to say is not a solution to the problem... I understand that, but why are we not dumping this in the desert? Seriously I know animals live there too... but if you have to chose desert vs tropical I think it would be obvious you will choose desert...
Than again the french tested nuclear bombs in a tropical paradise...
Sad...

The third world countries are in such a rush to be like the developed countries they don't bother researching the problems faced by the developed ones and come up with ideas to avoid them. Obviously the government doesn't give a crap; they just want to look like the heroes that increased their GDP and produced more jobs. The problem is; with more production, increased population and increased wages, there is more consumption thus more waste.

#5 LightAng3l, your a genius.----Desert Dumps? Ingenious. Thousands of square miles of desolation in under-developed countries just waiting to be 'landfilled'. That could provide a good income, employment, even a recycling centre of sorts.
1.Deserts are natural anti-bacterial areas, very little survives the extremes.
2.Most likely there will be no water table to be polluted.
3.They could concrete it over and over in layers. All that sand already in situ just waiting to be mixed.
4.Let the waste producing countries pay big bucks to get it there. "Build it and they will come".
5.They'll probably even build the 'highway to nowhere' just to get it out there.
6.Build a landing strip and they could fly it in. It solves their expensive disposal problems.
The Sahara is just begging for an idea like that. Every country around it would benefit enormously. Throw that solution out there and see if anyone runs with it.

This one shows how we do so much to destroy it all.
What a disgrace.
But who will do anything? Not on my doorstep...
