Looks like they get to live better in that prison than they did on their own. Where is the punishment?
I wonder if this guy is there....

In my country citizens are too primitive to understand this... :'( they want to see the criminals suffer.

I think im gonna try and smuggle some drugs into norway, best case I make good money, worst case I get to live better than i do now. >:)

There should be these types of prisons everywhere, but only for drug and alcohol offenses the rest of the trash (murderers, rapists, child molesters...)can go to a real prison.

#2 I guess they they don't want to punish, they just want people who obey the social rules.

No fences, of course not. When they live better there than at home, of course you don't have to worry about them "escaping".

Ummmm isn't this encouragement for more crime if they know they can end up in such holiday resort type "prisons" ?

Well, unlike the U.S., more liberal countries actually focus on rehabilitation and succeed. It's much more costly to taxpayers to house violent criminals for life or try to execute them.

Hahaha... 3:00. "Even the one who murdered his own parents and cut them up in pieces".... camera cuts to wall of tools. Where are those missing knives? lol

I think anyone guilty of a crime that requires incarceration should be shot in the head. The world is growing too large to tolerate social misfits and rehabilitation is not effective.

Norway is showing us that by treating criminals as people they have achieved a lower recidivism rate than any other country. As a result, their country is safer than any other.

You can't convince an offender to let go of its criminal ways by treating him like garbage and making him angry at society.

I will never understand societies that wish to hurt their criminals while trying to convince them that hurting someone is bad... Hurting your criminals will only convince them that hurting people is the way to go!

complete and utter horse shit. Treating a rapist nice will in no way affect his behavior. As soon as Norway becomes a super power give me a call.

#11 And punishing criminals is to scare the rest of the non-criminal population to stay... well, non-criminal.

All criminals should be executed. No matter what the crime, overdue library book or serial killer. Death by decapitation is the only answer.

The advantages are obvious:
1. The offender is immediately removed from society. He can never re-offend.
2. The execution acts as a deterrent for others.
3. It is very cost-effective. No expensive prisons are required.

4:52 Of course this may not work for every country/people in the same manner but Norway found a solution which gives them best statistic in the world so shut up and at least learn something all you haters.

Correction for moderators: It should be Oslo and not Olso in the title.

Don't judge a system that couldn't be implemented in your country. If this is effective and accepted in Norway, how can you be against it?

btw. you can punish and beat or torture a tiger for 69 years long for biting a kid, the second it gets released it bites another kid. Punishing is not the right system, you have to teach them how life realy should be.

Breivik is in a prison on Ila, the highest security level in Norway, and he's never getting out of there...
In Norway they belive in rehab, not the other way around, driving in the wrong direction cost a norwegian 7 years in the states. Here you would get a slap on the rist and a little fine.
I am glad to live in Norway, not so mutch hardcore criminals, the police and security guards arent even packing heat! :)

In America prison is not a nice place, they make you work and the sentences can be long without parole. And you might get raped!
If someone offed me a drug deal in America where i could make a LOT of money i would NOT do it for the said reasons.
If the same deal was offed in Norway i would have too think about it.
Punishment does work, at the very least as a deterrent.

#1 (and others without mental capacity to comprehend this)
watch the video.. it actuly DO teach them.

Sorry your living in a country where pain and suffering inflicted on others must be retaliated. With even more pain and suffering. Resulting in evnen more pain and suffering.
"cause yeah.. IT WORKS DAMNIT" !!! (it has to.. its all we know)
Thats why YOUR crime rate statistics are working their way UP, and other more enlightend countries, are working their way down.

#15 .. any victim of rape, with a shred of humanity, would give up the satisfaction of the rapist beeing punished completely. If this meant no others would have to suffer it ever again. Infact ALL rape victims ever care about, is NOT seeing the person ever again. Then mending their own scars. they couldnt care less what happens to the rapist. Infact, many of them forgive their rapist after a few years. When they have mended their soul, and come to terms what happend to them, was due to an ill person.
Real rapists are mentally ill. They are sick! they are not in controle of their actions.

#24 its cause of guys like you, stereotypes of Americans are made.
3 time capital offender = life. So you get caught 3 times stealing a car,
and your punishment is getting raped 2-3 times a week , beat up .. shanked.. for the rest of your life, potentionaly that beeing all sorted out REAL fast in your jail system.

But the psychotic 7ft 300 pound MMA fighter rapist, gets to serve his time..(statisticly 7 years) with no rape.. no beatings, basicly beeing left to his merry self.
no wonder you turn out more criminals from your penal system, than you put in. (statistic fact)

In conclusion:
Theese offenders meet all the basics for penalty.
They are kept away from the general public for the duration of the punishment.
They are stripped of free will, as they have to work on the island.
As any farmer will tell you, this qualify as "hard labour"

3:29 - 3:42

"The numbers speak for themselves. Only about 10% of inmates commit crimes again after release.
In comparison 30% of inmates in closed prisons end up behind bars again."

....just sayin'

#13: Well that has worked great, hasn't it? In every country where the punishments are always severe, crime rates are high and stay there. Here in Nordic countries most criminals get education in prison and become good law abiding citizens. The government gives the inmates a second chance and they do their best to make it count. In that sense, our prisons are more like hospitals for curing the dumb.

#27 Actual percentages are 16% to 20% in Norway and at this island retreat. Some probably commit another crime just to return there.
