Zoos are the number one way to get people to give more than two tosses about wild animals to foster support for their conservation. While the zoos of old were pretty poor places for an animal to live, modern ones give most animals quite a lot of space, as well as guaranteed nutritious meals (which no living heterotroph complains about).
Furthermore, most zoos are non-profit, and constantly struggling for funding. Despite that, they actively support wildlife conservation programs.
So if you're really interested in the well-being of animals across the globe, educate yourself about zoos, and support a quality one whenever you can.

#7. Large zoos often receive government funding, which means that if you work and pay taxes, you are already funding a zoo whether you want to or not. Personally, I don't. Why? Because I don't like zoos. I don't like to see wild animals snatched from their natural habitat and put on circus-like display in tiny cages and enclosures. This is often done under the guise of preservation. Well, if you want to preserve wild animals, simply leave their natural environment alone and they will flourish.
Normally I couldn't give a fuck about thumbs up or thumbs down, but this is serious. Thumb me up for Wild Animal Protection!
Thumb up now!

#8 Most animals in zoological garden are born in captivity. Zoos, at least in western countries, rarely "snatch" animals from the wild, they lend animals to other zoos for mating. Animals in zoos don't know the wild and probably wouldn't survive if they were released.
