The more they talk about the story the more ridiculous it gets.
At least the police officer didn't take it too seriously.

#5 Wrong. Just an example: if I steal food to give to my starving children is not the same as stealing some old lady's purse to buy a pack of cigarettes.

It's sort of cool to see that there safe and innocent communities, where you don't need to worry about crime. Almost universally, northern countries are safer and the people are more polite. It's not just Canada, in Sweden people don't even lock their doors.

#6 I see your point, but you can take it one step further. If you steel food from blind orphans to feed your children because you are too lazy to work, kind of changes things does it not?

So yeah, the circumstances for the theft are important, but theft is still theft. Someone still gets robbed, regardless if that person is starving or not.

My point exactly. Laws are also supposed to be applied by people with moral and ethic standards - that's why there are various types of crimes within the crime itself.
