When you watch future representation's of the planet in films like blade runner and games like fallout you see these sort of constructions - but I didn't know where the inspiration of that vision of the future came from - until now.

Someone would come and cut a lot of those, many people would be screwed for a long time.

Looks a mess but I bet it works quicker than ours in the west!

It's the place when you asked for an internet service... it will be serviceable in just a matter of hours, not days waiting for your scheduled service.

Well I download with 10MB+ per second here in Europe and I see americans complaining all the time on the internet about a 50MB file being too big to download... seriously? I rather have a million wires than think 50MB is too much for my connection, I take that file in 5 seconds or less.

One reason for keeping the cables above ground - in Japan at least - is that it's much easier to fix after an earthquake.

I'd have to assume at least some of those are nonfunctional and it was just too much effort to take them down, easier to just throw up something new as a patch or what have you and over time it's gotten to look like that...

But what are the wires I see in the U.S.? There are wires everywhere over streets.

this isn't east and west, it's just west and philipine. Go to countries like china, malaysia and singapore and it looks no different from the west.
