Since I was a kid I have been told that lightning goes from the ground and up. Dont know how it makes any sense though.

It's not going up, its going down it is an illusion because stronger lightening take those small once and collide together, I dot't get it why they call it a mystery, it is simple and every scientist can answer that question...

@3 That made me scratch my head too. My grandfather was an electrical engineer at GE Lightning Laboratory in the 1930's and 40's. He told me about this when I was a kid.
GE placed high speed cameras on the Empire State Building and filmed lightning strikes to study them.
Don't understand this video claiming that it's a newly discovered phenomenon.

The scientist in this video is a moron. Lightning does not go up... Lighting is an invisible construct before it connects with something. When it connects the energy released is so great it ionizes the air and the lightning becomes visible from the object's side spreading towards the origin, the cloud.

ISLAM KNEW ABOUT THIS WAYYYY BEFORE:
1400 years ago, the prophet Mohammad talked about this, he said that didnt you see how the lightning goes and comes back off the ground?.
Thank god for ISLAM, its the religion of science and reason.

#11 I'm sure you are long gone but to clarify:- No religion is a religion of science and reason. (With the obvious exception of Scientology which at least has it in it's title, although that's were it also ends) Most religions and incidentally Islam in particular hold back this world with their ancient beliefs based on nonsense that was written thousands of years ago, when no one knew of even the existence of the Atom. No one had looked through a microscope or a telescope. Sacrifice was the solution to problems because nobody knew any better, praying is just hoping and goes in one direction only. Since those early days the world has increased it's wisdom, much is known and yes there is much, much more to learn, but sadly some people choose not to accept how far we have come and instead prefer to live their lives as the ignorant did in days gone by.
