Footage of Curiosity descent

This is footage shot by the Curiosity lander landing on Mars. It looks a bit strange cause it is shot at 4fps.

A light beam would travel for about 4,35 minutes from Earth to Mars, pretty far away. I would feel a bit lonely if I were to be walking on Mars

Mars is 35,5 million miles away, when the planets are lined up.

Isn't it amazing that we kinda take this sort of thing in our stride these days. Really we should marvel at the interlect of the human being in being able to land effectively a car on a planet 35 million miles away (thank you #3)and it works! you could'nt guarantee that from a washing machine delivered ten miles by Currys.

All those craters and billions of years of undisturbed soil/sand - and relatively, man is at the cusp of living there. Exciting.

I think many people don't even comprehend how big of a milestone was this landing. Especially since it seems it went without a glitch. Wow... no words... RESPECT, NASA!

well, i'm pretty sure they filmed this at 30+ FPS in 8K+, but what happens when you try to download a video in that quality from all over the world. Noone gets to see anything, so you lower then quality to a point where the footage is shareable.

#8, you could donate money for bigger servers and a better internet hookup.

#14 ... u messed al up... fps is difrent thing then qualaty of the picture! U can have small size video with big fps. Or big sized video with smal fps and then is watching like here where its stoping picture... i know its 4 free but we live in a 2012 and belive me that videos like these are not for our century, compare it to moon film with legend Armstrong (R.I.P.). Thats whay im not sure, they make it not clear becouse they dont want to make it clear, get it.

No hard feelings

Amazing? Yes. A waste of money? Of course. Perhaps when all is good on Earth we can do these things, but think what could be done for the planet with that money first

I live in Berlin, Germany. They are building a shiny new Airport here - a job machine and prestigious object for the city. Should have been opened in June. But costs exploded and it will open in one or two years, actually. Big shame!

Point is: additional charges for the airport ( +1 billion EUR ) is half a mars mission. And 2 weeks of Olympic games in London did cost 12 billion EUR = six mars missions!
Just some numbers for you to get the relations right and talking about waste of money...
