#2 Evolution did not stop for them at step 2... that's just where they are at this time. Not all things started at the same time.

If the mayas were right, and the world ends as we know it, these fellows are the hope of new life on this planet. It is gonna take 60 millon years, but our planet survives

#5 the Mayans are not right don't worry. And if we talk about some species that will survive a big disaster i would bet on Tardigrade, and not that fishy fishy

one day the female frog was taking a nap... then shortly after a male fish was passing by in search of a mate, it was this time of the year.
But for some reason the water was empty of the normally eager awaiting female fish, he search high and low with no luck whatsoever, his desire was getting high.
Then he saw the frog, and a new idea popped in the mind of the little fish.
Not long after a new species was created...

#5 the planet does not need nor care if we destroyed ourselves and took alot of other creatures with us, like the mudskipper. It is a self correcting system that would recover in ways we would never even begin to imagine possible.
On the other hand, we have a chance to leave. We are the only species on the planet for the first time ever in evolution that is not bound to Mother Earth. So in a way we are alot like the mudskipper learning to survive in another environment, for us that is space. Challenge accepted

#2 This kind of "evolution" takes millions of years. We "humans" used to come from the same type of creature. If you fast forward a few million years from now the apes will probably have evolved into human like creatures. Tho, that won't happen due to "us" being around, but left alone, that would most likely happen.
