Seems like not as efficient harvesting as I would have thought. Love how he drops that hook right into the guys hands most of the time. Nice.

Remind me again how much fuel costs for a helicopter?

#7 Fuel for that helicopter (Jet A) is about 5.50 a gallon. I would guess that the fuel burn for that type of operation is about 20 gallons an hour. So 100-120 an hour in fuel. He averages a tree in the truck every 50 seconds. Round that up to a minute. =60 trees an hour. how much do those trees sell for? 40 bucks? Sell 60 trees at $40 and get $2,400 for one hour of operating a helicopter. Obviously there are numerous other costs in that kind of operation but it seems like they have it figured out.

#8 1 tree per 50 seconds? I thought that as well at first but I think he's grabbing a bundle of probably 4-5 per trip. Take a look when he picks them up and drops them off, compare that to the trees around the pick up area and it looks a lot more bushier than only 1 per trip.

I thought some sort of machine would come along a row and chop and net/twine them all in one op, but maybe they all don't grow the same rate that it's unfeasible to do them by row. Just seems weird and unproductive to cherry pick.

Edit: Just looked it up, http://youtu.be/VpUNsKmrD3g?t=6m23s 20 per load. Wow.

Wondering how he releases the bundle into the truck.
