Great idea. Kind of like a shot of nitrous, albeit not nearly as strong, but you don't have to manually fill the tank. Wonder how many seconds it lasts.

#2 Not really like nitrous, more like the model on the current F1 where the turbo is powered to prevent lag. This is done in lots of rally engines with anti-lag where they inject more fuel into the exhaust before the turbo to keep it spinning but the Volvo system looks rather more elegant and flexible, anti-lag wastes heaps of fuel.

Elegantly illustrated! And I'm glad it uses plain air instead of fuel.

Probably still costs a fortune, of course. But it's a Volvo, which is nice.

The combination of red hot turbine and spikes of very cold air will not be very gentle for that turbine, wonder how shorter will it last than a conventional turbocharger.

#6 Compressing the air into the tank causes the air to get hot and when a short quick shot of that air mixes with the red-hot exhaust gas the turbine wont even notice the difference. :)
