hmmm, the "tazer" guys were telling that the discharge can last only for 5 seconds (due to health safety reasons), however, it does not look like that in the video.... i'm wondering if a conductive grid or sheet metal could short-circuit the tazer rendering it ineffective...

Besides, the shotgun version is set to a default 20 seconds so they have the time to get to the subject (shotgun version is for longer distances) before it turns off (if you had seen Future Weapons on Discovery you would have known that) and the guy becomes hostile again.
The tazer basicly short-circuits by hitting you, even though metal conducts better than you, why would a device made to short-circuit be rendered ineffective by being short-circuited? Less resistance just means lower current if the voltage stays the same (400V or 50 000V). Never heard about Ohm's Law?
Doesn't Snotr have a policy on such comment trolls as Granko here? Obviously tries to put words in their mouth and create a discussion...

#6, #5 asked if a conductive grid or metal on the target's body would allow the electricity another less resistive path to follow. Electricity always follows the path of least resistance. The Taser doesn't cause a short, it completes a circut from the battery, through the wires, and back to the taser where the electricity is being pulled to. Completing a circut is intentional while a short causes electrons to flow in a path not intended. This would be the metal path the target is wearing. While it is probable that some electrons WOULD flow through the target's body, it could render the taser ineffective as it would no longer completely incapacitate the target.
Granko's comment was just fine. He doesn't say that the 5 second reference was in this video. Your comment on the other hand is just a little too cocky. If you disagree with someone's comment, please do it with grace and respect--not hostility. Thank you.

actually, the confetti only contains the tazer cartridges serial number, not the tazers. each cartridge has its own serial number and the serials are sent to tazer international on a registration card when the cartridge is purchased. the only way the actual tazer itself is linked is when it is connected to a computer through its connection jack because the fire data is stored when you use it. the tazer does have its own serial, which is linked to the owner through the same type of registration card.
it is in fact impossible to drill a hole in the side and vacuum the confetti out without making the cartridge useless because of its design. just in case anyone had any ideas

#5, #6, even if the tazer harpoons hit a metal object connected to your body you would still get shocked. the only way to prevent this is if you were wearing an insulating covering like a wet suit, which is highly unlikely.
#7 is right. the arc which is created is actually completing a circuit so having metal there wouldn't do anything.

I don't remember exactly what city it was in, but somewhere here in Florida the cops tazed a bad guy that had a disposable lighter in his shirt pocket, the lighter got hit and blew up and the bad guy caught on fire.
Did just a little bit more damage than they were expecting.
#6, if you disagree with someone, that's ok, but you don't have to be nasty about it, just politely say what's on your mind and move on. your comment was more "troll" like then #5

Well,#6 does have a point, I can't find a single reference the ">5 seconds you will get harmed" statement that #5 claims. So he's correct when it comes to the point of #5 trying to put words in their mouth.
#5 obviously thinks by creating a Faraday cage around his body that it would prevent the pulse from going through him, which is probably correct, while at the same time he almost makes it sound like a short-circuiting would completely ruin the tazer itself, which it won't (like #6 tries to tell him). Basicly #6 thought that number #5 said it would ruin the tazer, and stood up about it. I actually thought that #5 meant the same thing, but reading the other comments made me aware of the fact that he didn't mean "broken tazer" when he said "ineffective".
#11, didn't CSI have an episode where a guy that had been maced also got tazed and then went up in flames because they used the wrong kind of mace/pepper spray?

#14 nice call. it DOES appear to last 5 seconds.
in the tazer manual it says how long the shock lasts for. i dont remember what it said though. the only way the tazer would shock longer than it was designed to is if you held the trigger down. i believe it recommended not to do this because of health risks. the reason why they would allow you to do this is for safety reasons (to the person firing it) so that the tazer can be fired again if needed. even if you dont have tazer cartridges to fire, you can still zap someone with it just like a regular stun gun.

Even though the duration in these clips are 5 seconds, that doesn't mean that the Tazer guys have ever said that more than 5 seconds is harmful. As someone said, the Tazer XREP (Shotgun) has a duration of 20 seconds (to cover more ground). #17 i agree. even though the video showed 5 seconds, i think i remember something about 20 seconds, but then again the memory is faint.
