This is about the 20 times I've seen this....and every time I end up crying...I was born deaf on one side, so I know how hard that can be, but to be totally deaf is a whole different game entirely...then to get your hearing back...amazing. It would be like me waking up one day without screaming tinnitus all the time....life changing.

This is just an honest thought, why is it that in every clip like this they say a deaf person now hears for the first time, yet they are able to understand language? Sorry if I somewhat spoil what really is a wonderful experience to witness, it's just that I have this thing about misinformation :)

This gets me every time I see one of these videos. But I also wonder how it is that someone who has never heard a spoken word always seems to understand what's being said as soon as the implants are turned on. I wonder if they are still reading the speaker's lips or if they actually understand the meaning of the sounds they are hearing.

I think they totally only read lips.
But I wonder if the words sounds like they have imagined in their brain all those years.

You notice how it's filmed? We don't see much of what's going on behind the doctor, perhaps a screen with those words... But I can agree about the high pitch statement...

Funny how so many think its fake or "not the first time hearing" or an other trick. There are hundreds of videos from people getting a cochlear implant, all with the same reactions. Did they team up to fool us? Why so sceptical? I dont know how it works for them either..but i know a deaf person who is born deaf. He communicates with sign language but sometimes talk along while gesturing. You can almost understand him, sound like he has headphones with very loud music on and didnt talk for ages. The brain is capable of amazing things.. Just be happy for that lady =)
