I wonder what they are using the HDD's for ? Bass line ?

What makes me laugh is those old drives are going for good money now , they contain a motor a servo and lots of other nice bits for hackers and the maker community.

Great to see things not just being thrown away but reused for all kinds of things.

I don't see any correlation at all between movement and sound. How does this work??

Somethings tells me that you really don't want to bring that suitcase as a carry on when you fly. I think that the TSA would take a little exception to something like that...

I am confused, I can hear music. Surely silence is silent? Or am I missing the point? ;-)

#2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6tuMn5sPyM < Check this out on how to do it with an arduino.

Stepper moters are pulses to make them move a step and the faster the pulse the higher the pitch.

And because there are a few "instruments" here its kind of hard to see the correlation but its there, also remember because the drive/motor has limited travel , the software controlling it all is doing some wicked sorcery to get the notes all playing without all kinds of pauses for direction changes and such.

The amount of code behind all of that is quite amazing.

Try that mario clip out if you want to see the stepper motors move in sync!
