Except that we don't know if the animals ended up in a worse fate like this mouse:

Regarding the fox with the bottle over its head, the real issue is why are we leaving stuff like that (plastic bags, bottles, etc.) for animals to become entangled with in the first place.

#11 I don't especially like rats, but providing they don't want to live where I want to live, then I leave them alone. Several years ago a family of them started annoying the family chickens so I was forced into setting traps. One morning upon checking the traps I found a rat caught by the leg but very much alive. I couldn't kill it, so I carefully opened the trap and off it went, hopefully to annoy the Neighbours chickens. So your "Not seeing a rat being saved has a fault" :)

#14 Yeah that was me, but I have to update my position on rats. What I don't like is any animal dieing slowly and suffering, such as the one I mentioned in my comment #12 above. The only two options I then had at that time was kill it manually or let it go, so I let it go. However earlier in the year we put out food for the wild birds and started getting a family of rats coming to the feeding area, so I had to do something. I bought an air rifle and shot maybe ten of them over a few days and that was it, didn't see anymore. It's a good rifle and each shot finished them off in a second or two, That didn't bother me as it was quick and effective. Now we have a couple of squirrels that come to the feeder, I can't shoot a squirrel, it's got a fluffy tail and is cute, so I bought a .357 magnum snub nose replica BB gun, the sound alone bothers the squirrels, not enough to not come back, so I've rigged up a little brass bell next to the feeder and I shoot the bell, that does the trick lol.
