Why is the woodpecker so obsessed with that hole?

Because he's been pecking for two months to make this hole for him to sleep in and then some stupid ass snake comes in and takes it from him... I guess I would be pissed too...

I hate snakes!! They are unpredictable, quick and in some cases deadly. No thanks to that.

I have tried to identify the snake but have not found one that matches the size, color, and prey of that one.The Pileated Woodpecker is found throughout much of North America and is the largest of all woodpeckers there with a wingspan of 30" and a length of 15". The Smooth Green Snake offered in #10 's post is a small snake averaging 12" to 36" and eats insects and caterpillars, not birds or bird eggs. Comparing the known size of that species of woodpecker to the huge snake shown leaves me to believe that is some other type of snake.
Anyone recognize it?

I'm pretty sure it's a green rat snake (Senticolis triapsis). http://www.reptilesofaz.org/Snakes-Subpages/h-s-triaspis.html
