Car window glass is not the same as regular glass. the force needs to be focused into a point for maximum effect.
All the rescue tools available on the market work on the same principle.

Don't you have to hit the window in the corner? Otherwise the glass has too much play and the hammer just bounces back...

Man if your planning to rob a car like that method use a window hammer you know like the ones you can steal on a bus or a train or buy for a few bucks on ebay they are tiny and shatter windows like that in seconds and a lot smaller than walking around with a hammer ,
And he was using the wrong site the sharp side of the hammer would have shattered it much quicker hitting it with the flat side just makes it bounce off.

he's doing it all wrong....
you need to hit it with the other end of the hammer, because when you hit it flat on with the hammer head it will bounce off every time.
how do i know this, i too learned the hard way, an old dude drove through the stream near our house and his car sank up to the roof, he was stuck inside and i got him out with a hammer, after around 20 blows, finally i hit it with the claw end and it went through instantly.
its the reason emergency escape hammers always have pointed ends.

Easier way, use a use a piece of spark plug porcelain.... and throw it at the window. It's virtually silent too.

Hilarious! The guy starts with a gentle hit then in the end he hits that glass with all his strength just to break try break it.

I get the idea he breaks the mechanism for the window but come on... that's 1 in a million you get that lucky
PS: a tip. use other end of the hammerhead. Even a fist with your keys pointing out can shatter it easier btw. (black sheep in the family you learn something 
)

you have to put sand on the hammer first, so the pressure will be forced on to a much smaller area which makes the glass brake more easily

All it takes is a matter of seconds for a car prowler to get into your vehicle. All they need is a JCB, some C4 and a S.W.A.T team to break the glass
