Every time I see this I feel a headache in my head.
#3 after three surgery in the head and a plastic surgery on his face, he is ok now and started training this week.
I would have given him the red card. He tried to kick the ball near the head of his opponent. Such careless behaviour should be punished.
Sometimes in sport such things happen, but that has nothing to do with sportic eagerness...
#9 Indeed mate, it should have been a straight red and a 6 month ban from the game. He nearly took the life of another footballer through his careless actions. Infact 6 months would of been a big let off.
Terrible accident. But to me it looked like just that. If you pause the video when the defender begins his attempt to kick the ball, the ball (and sadly the guy's head) is well below chest height (for him). The other player looks about a foot shorter and he is ducking in order to head the ball forwards, putting his melon right in the firing line for the hefty clearance (attempt).
Careless play? Certainly. A better player would have successfully cleared or at least seen the risk. But there were some elements of bad luck and circumstances there too. A red card and a ban would imply he did it on purpose, and if he did it on purpose he should go to prison. Nevermind the cards.
This was Chris Mavinga vs Mehdi Carcela for those who wanted to know.

Its in belgium Standard vs RC GENK... He was idd he was out for a few months had to get some surgery! He is back playing again... Great football player carcella.
Mehdi Carcela survived with broken jaw, teeth and nose. This happened 2 months ago. He underwent reconstructive surgery and surely will play football again. FC Valencia is actually hunting him for their club...
It wasn't so much the kick to the jaw that did him in but the double-whammy of hitting the pitch with his face at 1G that exacerbated his injury. Hope his career isn't affected too much ![]()

Carcela fell to the ground and was knocked out cold before he was taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, Carcela seems to be okay, although he did suffer a concussion and lost several teeth. ![]()
