I´m pretty sure your knife at home is a lot sharper than this tool...
otherwise the tool wouldn´t be strong enough to handle those forces... the only thing this tool is, its much harder than your kitchen knife

wow, deffinetly not what I thought cutting steel would look like, very interesting.
I know what this is, It's SUPERMAN having a SHAVE close up, go that "Man of Steal" thats one steel chin.
This is just a comparison of metal cutting tools that have been coated with a ceramic product,T.I.N.(Titanium nitride) ,vs cutting tools that have not been coated. The ceramic coating allows for faster,smoother cutting with less need for lubrication.

It is not like something cutting trough steel, the tool is named a "cutting steel" ![]()
If I understand you correctly,you are saying that the cutting tool is NOT cutting through tough steel?
