#1 Been there..done that. And its really scary and loud inside..its even scary if the machine is not turned on..just beeing in this tube. Keep your organs and muscles intact so you dont have to go in there :)

#2 you are mistaken, the long tunnel is a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)...

This is a CT Scan (Computerized Tomography), they work totally differently!

The CT Scan spins a X-Ray generator on a 360 degree plane (means it spins the X-Ray machine around you to create a 3D image of your insides like taking a few hundred X-Ray from all angles at almost the same time. The CT spins really fast because all "snapshots" must be taken almost at the same time otherwise your "insides" may move an invalidate the images.

An MRI scanner is a device in which the patient lies within a large, powerful magnet where the magnetic field is used to align the magnetization of some atomic nuclei in the body, and radio frequency fields to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization. This causes the nuclei to produce a rotating magnetic field detectable by the scanner—and this information is recorded to construct an image of the scanned area of the body. (Got that last one on Wiki)

At one time or another I have been in both types of machine....and they are both LOUD....first time I was in one I had been asked what kind of music did I like ....and would I like to bring a CD ....for the life of me I couldn't figure out WHY I would need music !..I mean ....if I was in there that long I could fall asleep !.....NOT ....even when the music was played at high volume I could hardly hear it!

#2 #4 I've been in both types of machines, and both had long tunnel :D
Both scary and loud. One difference between them is that CT scanner is faster but not so healthy because of the x-rays, and MRI is much healtier because of the magnetic resonance but it takes longer to perform the job, and when I got out of the MRI after a bit above half-hour for a brain scan [ to see if it's still there >:) LOL joke, because of an accident with my bike ], my vision was all blurry, couldn't see a thing...

Oh and MRI scanner sounds like Dubstep, really ! :D

Ive been inside one of these all they are is a xray machine x 100 BUT there is a downside they inject you with Iodine for better imaging and soon after injection you smell & may have a warm, flushed sensation and a metallic taste in your mouth that lasts for a few minutes.
General xrays sometimes cannot pick things up like cancer until its too late ,this machine is a god send use it if you need results!

Yeah truth about the dubstep. I was getting in to a MRI, and the nurse said: You will hear loud unpleasant sounds.
And then... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GZvd_4ot04 I kinda liked it :D

In the earlier models, when cameras were too big and heavy, the subject (patient) would be spinning inside the camera ring. It had some minor side effects to the patients health though. ;)
