A friend of mine did this but he encountered several problems: big fans didn't run at all, he had to stick with 40 mm to 60 mm ones.

#4 and #12, you are both right. It's the optical density which is almost identical for both, the glass bottle and the glycerin.
Still you can see the glass bottle in the drinking glass. There is a narrow gap between the tow, clearly visible. If it was water, the gap would be much wider and the bottle easier to spot.

Juan Pablo Montoya failed to become the real title contender. When he was about to be replaced by another driver (due to contract issues) he switched to NASCAR.
And Jeff Gordon said himself that he loved the test drive but admitted that there was a huge difference in both series. Another reason was probably the nessacity to learn from the ground up. And lets face it, his best times are long gone. 38-something years is too old for F1.

Actually, methane is practically unsoluble in water (26 ml per l water). So the reason has to be because they live far off and have their own well, which lies next to natural gas caverns. Some bubbles are caught in the water stream and voilá! So no additive to smell it.
