#12 the discussion was on the subject of NASA. I'm quite aware of that the US military is 43 percent of the worlds total military funding or 54% of the US budget. I agree with you this is absurd and immediately following is social programs at 36 percent followed by general government at 11 percent.

9# Off duty time, what is his real job at a cost of $20 million and getting there by Russian rocket, a NASA preferred foreign-vendor. Your right, why worry, a wasted billion here and a billion there doesn't add up to real money. What the hell NASA is only $18.7 billion budget, so why worry about blowing money on a space program after all we are only $15,564,809,891,767.99 in debt.
We will only pay 4.8 trillion dollars for interest payments on the debt in the next decade. Enjoy the entertainment while it lasts.

15. fixento2 67 days ago on video We Stopped Dreamin
The technology developed in the sixties to reach space came from ballistic missile development by the armed forces not NASA. Technology would have continued for satellite and missile development. Getting man into space and the moon was for propaganda purposes to show the iron curtain counties the US's technology advancements. I'll concede that back then NASA could throw money at a project and achieve a result that benefited us, but not today.
NASA threw billions on developing a replacement for the shuttle and abandoned the project. Decided to go back to what they did in the sixties and do what the Russians have been doing, put it on a missile. Mars my ass, NASA cannot put a man on the moon today and that says it all.
Small world, I think not, 70 percent of this world is under the ocean and it's 99 percent unexplored.

Got to the moon in the 1960s, can't get there in 2012. Built a 40 billion dollar space station that cost 120 billion dollars to do experiments that can be done without human presence. Looking for water on the moon when we don't have transportation to reach in order to mine minerals already present on earth.
Lets take our science and research resources and start solving real earth problems, real alternate sources of energy, wireless communication, wireless electricity transportation, rebuilding infrastructure, etc. I don't give a damn if it's .000001 percent of the national budget when we are facing a 14 trillion dollar deficit. Going broke with NASA unrealistic dreams that only produces propaganda is not practical nor beneficial to this country. Exploration of space should only be done if there is a real benefit to the taxpayers that are footing the bill and not for those who are being supported by the government.

#18 Short sighted, I think not, you assume that I'm suggesting we don't continue to fund NASA but there is a need for serious oversight to determine if there is practical benefit associated with the expenditure and its not another grandiose plan that will never happen is being funded. NASA forgot that discovery is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration. Speaking of 1 percent, it is 37 billion dollars the 2012 budget and most of that will have to paid by our grandchildren.
I'm also sure you not suggesting that a cure for a disease is not related to the investment in research.
47. Comment rated too low. Show this comment fixento2 170 days ago on video The NASA Effect
Lets cut to the chaff, NASA is not capable of returning to the moon. They are in the entertainment business. Mars is better PP, but too far for us to travel from a practical sense. NASA has a space station that 99% of the experiments can be performed without astronauts. Incidentally, it was to cost 40 billion now it's over 100 billion, need I say more about waste. We can't barely pay the interest on the national debt we owe, yet the education system is bleeding the taxpayers from the local to the national level without producing viable results. I would rather pay for a cure for cancer in children then finding out if water existed on Mars.

Police departments have adopted strict rules when they can use a Taser gun since this "non-lethal weapon" company hype has proven to be lethal at times. Unlike the US where police pull and fire their weapons at any provocation, police value civilian life differently in many countries. This is a good thing. The police officers didn't seem to be upset that they didn't kill the idiot and maybe if you were this guys father, mother, brother, sister or friend you would feel the same.
If it occured in US and he recovered from his gunshot wounds, our “justice” system would have charged him with 10 different charges and sentence him to thirty years because officers were involved but let a drunk driver serve five years for killing a family of four.

Oh, my God, another BS science verses religion perpetrated on the public. However, science deserves skepticism, admitting mistakes does not confirm the validity of future scientific “facts”.
The most useful tools and equipment that we use in our everyday lives came from the imagination of ordinary people that applied common sense, effort; trial and error, effort, and more effort to make something that make their and our lives easier and more productive. The US Patent office has a very difficult time determining if patent applied for today is actually new or just an improvement over something that was invented before the 19th century.
Religion that is a belief that is decided by an individual as is their view of "science". As far as religion goes, this much I can tell you, I was on a plane at 30,000 feet many years ago and when it filled up with smoke there was not a person on board who was an atheist.

By calculating the number of injuries per 1,000 times an athlete participates in a specific activity during the year, the study was able to determine which activities produced the highest injury rate. With 5.2 injuries per 1,000 exposures, boxers receive more injuries than athletes in any other sport. Snowboarders and tackle football players tied for second with 3.8 injuries, followed by ice hockey players (3.7); alpine skiers (3.0); and soccer (2.4), softball (2.2), and basketball (1.9) players. Two interesting statistics are that wrestlers sustain only 1.4 injuries for every 1,000 exposures, and softball players receive 0.8 per 1,000 more injuries than baseball players (2.2 and 1.4 respectively).

Is this because all the rich people are honest or is it related to the temptation of wanting something you don't have, if only for a short time. I"ll say it again with all the violent crimes why would any intelligent person think baiting is a method of combating crime? Prisons are full enough without fools throwing fools into the system.
